Omega Watches
This Swiss watch company has been making instruments of precision and beauty since its inception 155 years ago. Indeed, Omega was one of the first brands to create chronographs and chronometers and was a leader in timing Olympic Games early in the 20th century. Omega landed on the moon in the 1960s, and continues to be involved not only in the U.S. space program, but also in sports timing, auto and yacht racing and in expeditions and explorations—and its timepieces keep pace to the tiniest fraction of a second. In its world-renowned Speedmaster series, Omega recently unveiled the Speedmaster Broad Arrow limited-edition watch. Based on the first model in the Speedmaster series, this newest addition uses an exclusive, completely new Omega chronograph movement.
Developed by Omega and produced for the company by Frèdèric Piguet, the new caliber is a self-winding COSC-certified chronometer with column-wheel chronograph mechanism. The special limited-edition Broad Arrow models feature the hand of the original Speedmaster watch, and house a platinum rotor with an 18-karat gold Speedmaster medallion. The watch features an enamel dial and is limited to just 99 pieces in each color of gold. There is also a skeletonized version crafted in a platinum case and produced in a series of 21 pieces. Omega has unveiled a new version of the Speedmaster Professional Chronograph—still the only watch ever worn on the moon. The movement of the new model is the Caliber 861, originally implemented in the Speedmasters. However, it employs the latest technical standards. Additionally the design of the moon watch retains the same classic look it had in the 1960s, with black dial and luminous markers and hands.
Today’s Speedmaster Professional line is enhanced by a version with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and transparent sapphire caseback—revealing the movement that bears the inscription, "The first and only watch worn on the moon." In its more elegant Constellation collection, Omega offers a host of versatile new models. The Constellation 50th Anniversary watch was unveiled in 2002 and the series includes three ladies' models and three men's models in steel or gold, each engraved with the words "Constellation—50 Years" on the caseback. Dial colors include black, cream and silver and are embossed with the Omega logo. Also new is the striking Omega Quadra watch line. With its square design and sporty accents, the chronograph watch comes in a variety of models and colors.
New versions of the My Choice Constellation Mini also have been unveiled, with elegant mother-of-pearl dials complemented by color-coordinated straps or elegant bracelets. New chronometer models, including a Co-Axial Chronograph crafted in either steel or 18-karat rose gold, have also joined the De Ville Co-Axial series. This marks the first time a chronograph watch has been fitted with a Co-Axial escapement.
